Term 4 - Week 2 Principal's Weekly Update
Principal's Weekly Update

Dear Families
Retirement of Executive Director Bill Dixon
During the week I had the pleasure of attending the retirement mass and celebration of Bill Dixon - Executive Director of Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns. During his time he has been a strong advocate for Catholic Education not just here in Cairns but throughout regional and remote Queensland, St Joseph’s has certainly benefited from his support and advocacy. While Bill is retiring after 10 years in the position, his service to Catholic education extends back much further - we wish him well for what adventures await. Our new Executive Director ~ Diarmuid O’Riordan returns to the diocese and will take up the role in January 2025.

Upcoming Events

Student Attendance
A bright future for our students starts with good attendance levels, every day. Attendance alone doesn’t guarantee positive outcomes for students; however, positive outcomes are less likely to occur without good attendance.
Education is a partnership between the school and the home. Our attendance goal is a minimum of 90% or more of students attending 90% of more of the time, along with 0% unexplained absences.
To notify the school of student absences, call 4038 5100 and select 1 for Student Absences or email secretary.parramatta@cns.catholic.edu.au. Absences can also be logged through the MyCE app.

2025 Sacramental Program
Parents of children in Grades 4,5,6 (in 2025) who have been baptised in the Catholic Church and who have not yet received the Sacraments of Penance (Reconciliation), Confirmation and Eucharist (First Holy Communion) are invited to enrol their child/children in the Parish Sacramental Program 2025.
If you wish your child to receive these sacraments for the first time, please send an expression of interest by email to: sacraments.ppparish@cairns.catholic.org.au requesting an Enrolment Form and providing a copy of your child’s Baptism Certificate (scan/email).
