Joey's News - Week 5 - Term 4
From the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Families,
New Staff
I am happy to announce the following confirmed new teachers for 2026.
Kayla Kingston – currently on contract until the end of the year and has been appointed to a permanent position here at St Joseph’s in 2026
Amber Thompson
Eleanor Taylor
Vani Woods has accepted a position to teach Prep at Holy Cross Primary commencing in 2026. This has been a difficult decision for Vani and while she will be a big gain for Holy Cross, she will be an equally big loss for us. We are fortunate that we will be gaining an experienced prep teacher in Eleanor Taylor who is currently at St Andrew’s and has significant experience across Cairns Catholic Education.
Students not returning in 2026
We ask that families (current Prep - Yr 5) moving on from St Joseph's at the end of the year to a new school to please let the office know as soon as possible. We continue to have a steady stream of enrolments for next year and would like to avoid putting new families on waiting lists if possible.
With Christ, we live, love and learn
James Roberts
Principal

We’re calling for expressions of interest for JCC positions commencing January 2026. These are voluntary positions

We also welcome local businesses to express their interest in becoming future supporters for prize donations or

If you have ideas or suggestions for next year’s events, purchases, or other initiatives, or would like to be involved in
any way, please get in touch with one of our members or contact the school office – we’d love to hear from you!
Every bit of help, big or small, makes a difference and helps us continue building a strong and connected school
community.

It’s time to get your tropical shirts out….
It’s the Bunnings Cairns Central
Sizzle N Sleigh!
Thursday December 4th 6pm – 8pm
This year we are doing Christmas North Queensland style, out in our Birdcage area, with
Breeze, BBQ and Bright colours.
That’s right, forget the white Christmas and decorated pine trees, we want to see how you do Christmas here in the north.
Decorate a palm tree, bottle brush or pool float.
Use bright non traditional colours
Have boomers run Santa’s sleigh…. You get the picture right?
We are inviting community groups to come along and spread some Christmas fun by hosting a stall that’s fun, interactive and promotes your group.
Our recent Halloween family event was a massive success and a record breaking 521 people attended, with all of the feedback pointing out how FUN & INTERACTIVE it all was with our carnival games, prizes and themed atmosphere. We would love for our community groups to be able to recreate what the families want, and offer something for the kids to interact and play with, or something to take home to remember you by.
If your group is creative, offer demonstrations, or lessons
If your group is a sports club, why not offer a go at hitting, kicking or throwing a ball?
If your group is performance based, we would love for you to perform!
Have branded merch to sell or giveaway? We would love that!
Do you cook or bake? Sell what you create or get customers involved by giving out recipes, samples
Dress up in your tropical best and decorate your stall to reflect our theme
Prizes on offer for our community groups will be:
Best dressed stall = $100 gift card
Best dressed group = $100 gift card
Best game/attraction (voted by the guests) = $100 gift card
