From the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Families,

It’s not surprising that the last week of the semester has been busy and I’m happy to say that it has been a “good Busy”.  It has included success from the School Choir at the Cairns Eisteddfod in the Folk Group section coming first, along with great results in other categories.  Thank you to our Music specialist Nicole Tobin.  We also continued our run of successes in the Choric Speaking with Year Six again taking out first place, a position we have held since 2019.  Thank you to our Year Six Team, led by Jacqui Doolan and Steph Skimming.

I would also like to take the opportunity to publicly thank all teachers for their diligence in completing Student Semester Reports, while continuing with a full teaching load.

For me, my highlight was being invited into Year One to listen to students read their letters to me suggesting ways we can improve our school environment.  I thank Year One teachers Lindsay Baker and Ellen Graham for their work with the students.  Next term, our Year Six Mercy Stewardship Leaders will work with the Yr Ones to bring 1-2 of their ideas to fruition, with presentations of these projects at a School Assembly.

The Leadership Team has also taken time to review our Semester One student data.  While we looked at data across learning areas and year levels, we focused on the results we are starting to see with our new reading approach. Our early success can be attributed to the hard work of teachers delivering a quality reading approach with fidelity.  Please take a moment to listen to our Acting Leader of Diversity - Stacey Edmonds give a brief recount.

I hope everyone enjoys the school holidays and can relax and have fun as a family at some point.  I look forward to seeing everyone back safe and sound for an exciting Term Three.

With Christ, we live, love and learn

James Roberts
