From the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Families

This week I had the privilege of spending Wednesday morning in the Year 5.1 Habitat teaching Maths, Digital Technology and Spelling Mastery. The students showed great enthusiasm when they got the opportunity to use their new laptops – even with the struggles of learning how to operate them. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hope to get back there soon, as well as doing some teaching in other habitats.

Next week I begin Prep enrolment interviews for 2026 with strong application numbers.  If you or someone you know are considering St Joseph’s Primary for the education of your pre-schooler, then I encourage you to act now and apply online via our school website. I am conducting all interviews, and families who have put in application will receive information early next week with instructions on how to make an on-line booking. Interviews will be completed by the end of Term One with enrolment offers going out on Monday 28th April.

With Christ, We Live, Love and Learn

Sacred Spaces - News from your APRE

Wow! I’m so proud of our students for their dedication to our Opening Blessing Celebration on Friday. It was wonderful seeing our school community engaging with full, active participation, ensuring a great celebration to start our year.

Thank you to those students with identified roles who met with me at lunchtimes, ensuring our liturgy was meaningful through their singing, movement, and other forms of participation.

These photos showcase their dedication and why I was so proud!

SENIORS SHINE!

Congratulations to our Seniors who received their leadership badges at the liturgy! It was made more special by having Sr Faye Kelly, who the Kelly House was named after, in attendance to hand out House Leader badges. We look forward to the positive impact all Senior students will bring to our school community this year.

PILGRIM OF HOPE LOGO - Designed for St. Joseph's?

The logo chosen for the Year of Hope looks like it was chosen especially for St. Joseph's.  Four people are shown holding on to the cross to represent all humanity coming from the four corners of the Earth, but it looks like they're our four Houses of Mercy - McAuley, Rush, Moran and Kelly which represent our school community who come from all parts of Cairns.

News from Joey's Community Connect (JCC)

Friday, 14th February is the last day to nominate yourself for the JCC Executive. We have current members stepping down and we have not received enough interest to make up a new executive committee.

We are looking for nominations for: President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. An emailing containing a link to nominate was sent out to families on Thursday 06 Feb. If you have not received this form and would like to nominate yourself, please contact the front office.

If we do not get parents volunteering to be on the executive, we cannot call the next AGM to vote in the new committee and none of the wonderful events that the JCC puts on for the school will be delivered this year. Parent involvement in the JCC is both critical and necessary, and ensures a strong and vibrant school community that brings our families together.

As a committee member you will be involved in organising events (not fundraising) such as Mothers Day and Fathers Day celebrations, Under 8's day, Sausage Sizzles, Fete, Movie/Trivia Nights. You will also assist in funding requests from staff and students to invest in the classroom and schoolgrounds.

Your levies go towards funding the JCC - have a voice and represent the school to ensure we keep investing in our school community.

Highlights of the Week

Week 2 Assembly & Awards (07/02/25)

Last Friday we welcomed staff, students and families back to school at our first assembly of the year. We also farewelled one of our longest serving staff members, Carmel Buckley, as she begins her retirement.

Congratulations to the recipients of our St. Joseph's Way Awards. What a way to start the year! Keep up the amazing work.
