Joey's News - Week 6
From the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Families
This week we saw the commencement of Lent - our 40 day lead up to Easter, with our Ash Wednesday liturgies. The students were amazing with their reverence and engagement with the liturgy. For Catholics, lent has traditionally been about sacrifice or giving something up to recognise Jesus’ preparation for the ultimate sacrifice of giving his life for us through his crucifixion on Good Friday.
In recent times this has shifted to focus more on what is that one thing additional you will do for others without being asked. I encourage families to have a conversation with their children about what extra they will do for lent. It may be as simple as taking out the rubbish, feeding the dog or tidying up.... without having to be asked.
Last week the Joey’s Community Connect (JCC) met for their AGM and elected their new executive for 2025. I thank Emma Gelling, Catherine Smith, Isabelle Lablache and Kin Phanthavong for their commitment to the St Joseph’s community. Please click on the link below to find out more.

Sacred Spaces - News from your APRE

At St. Joseph's, we believe in nurturing students who are compassionate, informed, and active in making a difference. Social justice projects help students engage with real-world issues, encouraging awareness, advocacy, and action. By exploring topics they are passionate about, students develop critical thinking, media literacy, and a sense of responsibility toward creating positive change (Read more here).
This Lent, our Year 3-6 students are putting these ideas into action by leading fundraising initiatives for Project Compassion. Their efforts will support those in need, aligning with our commitment to ending poverty, promoting justice, and upholding dignity. Below, you’ll find details about Year 3’s fundraising initiative! Stay tuned for more ideas from our students in the coming weeks.
