Our Values ~ Love, Learning, Community, Respect
Our Expectations ~ Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Ready To Learn

This week I wish to talk about our final expectation ~ Be Ready To Learn.   This term all habitats have been working on their 5 point Ready To Learn scale and introduced it into their daily routines and transitions. Students visually display with their fingers how ready they are to learn and teachers scan to ascertain who is ready and who is not and alter the transition into the lesson to get everyone at 3-5 (Maslow before Bloom).

Maslow before Bloom is a phrase that discusses Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and Benjamin Bloom’s taxonomy of learning. The saying suggests that people need to fulfill their basic needs before pursuing academic learning. Maslow’s hierarchy takes precedence over Bloom’s cognitive tiers. Experts maintain that Maslow’s findings directly impact a person’s ability to learn.

Part of this is developing language and expectations around what being ready to learn looks like:

  • All materials needed at your desk
  • Listening to the teacher
  • Following the teacher’s instructions
  • Putting your hand up / not calling out
  • Asking questions if you do not understand
  • Not being distracted or distracting other students
  • Not moving out of your seat unless really necessary

With Christ, we live, love and learn

Fundraising for Caritas

Year 3

This term, students have been fundraising for Caritas Project Compassion. Year 3 has been raising money by hosting a school-wide colouring competition. Students from each year level were invited to participate for a gold coin donation. Congratulations to the winners from each year level!

Year 4

Year 4 has spent the past month preparing for their fundraising event by gathering items and baking various goodies to sell at their Caritas Shop. They managed to raise $600 and are incredibly proud of their efforts and results. Well done Grade 4!

Year 5

The year 5 cohort organised a fundraising competition to "Guess the Number of M&M's in the Jar." Congratulations to both winners of the competition!

Assembly Led By Year 5

Year 5 led the school in a thought-provoking prayer assembly, exploring the meaning of charity for a Catholic school. We also farewelled one of our Year 3 Teachers, Mrs Cavaliere, as she begins her maternity leave at the end of this term.

Week 9 Award Winners

Congratulations to this week's award winners, keep up the hard work!

Parent Volunteers

This week we have had numerous parents volunteer their time to help cover and catalogue new resources for our students.  Thank you to everyone who has given up their time to make these resources available as fast as possible.

There are still roughly 2000 resources to cover, and all parent assistance is both welcome and appreciated. If you would like to volunteer your time, please contact Vanessa Bush in the library for more information.
