Joey's News - Week 3 - Term 2
From the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Families,
Mother’s Day
I wish all mums in our community and in all communities a joy filled Mother’s Day on Sunday and hope that your day with your family is full of blessings.
Pope Leo XIV
On Friday morning Catholics and indeed the world heard the news that after just two days in the Conclave the cardinals had elected Cardinal Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV. The name a Pope chooses is symbolic to the wider Church and the world something of his priorities and style.
The last Pope Leo (XIII) is renowned for Catholic Social Teaching with his encyclical Rerum Novarum – “On the Rights of Workers”. It led to the formulation what are often called today the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, including: the sanctity of life and the dignity of the human person, solidarity, the right to participation in decision making that affects the individual or community (subsidiarity), the dignity of work and the rights of workers, including the preferential option for the poor.
Just about every Pope since Leo XIII has built on Catholic Social Teaching as did Pope Francis with his encyclical Laudato Si - “On Care for Our Common Home”
Pope Leo XIII was also considered a peacemaker – something that our world needs today in such challenging times. By choosing the name Leo XIV we pray that our new Pope will emulate the peacemaker in Pope Leo XIII - his first words to the world were ‘Peace be with you’.
God of all people, we turn to your Holy Spirit.
As Pope Leo XIV assumes the Petrine Ministry, we pray that your Spirit draw ever closer to our new Holy Father, lighting his path so that he may faithfully see and respond to the needs of your people.
We pray that Pope Leo XIV be strengthened in his ministry.
May he continue building bridges that connect us to one another.
May he be an example of faith, hope, and love.
We pray that you give him joy in his work and a renewed fervour for your Gospel message.
May he never lose sight of Christ who walks before us and among us — particularly in the most vulnerable, the forgotten, and the outcast.
Christ Jesus, bless Pope Leo XIV — and bless us, your holy people, as together we strive to be your Body in our wounded world.
Amen.
With Christ, we live, love and learn
