Term 3 - Week 4 Principal's Weekly Update
Principal's Weekly Update
Dear Families,
CEW
On Monday I had the joy of attending the launch of Catholic Education Week with some of our student leaders at Mass in St Monica’s Cathedral, celebrated by Archbishop Mark Colridge. It was wonderful to be there with all of the other schools from the diocese to recognise and celebrate the important role that Catholic Education makes…the students really enjoyed the pizza and cake afterwards!

Here at school, we commenced the week with a wonderful liturgy in our sacred space to celebrate the week. We were also fortunate to have Andrew Chinn here at school to workshop with each grade, followed by a concert at the end of the day. Finally, today we had our Grandparents Assembly which is always a highlight for families. Grandparents play an important role with the fabric of families and it was great that so many were able to join our community for the celebration. We thank Robyn Chambers for her amazing work in putting all of this together.
Student Illness
There is still a lot of illness in the community and we have not been immune to it. We are seeing multiple students present at sick bay each day unwell with various flu-like symptoms. I ask parents to consider carefully sending their child to school if they wake up complaining of not feeling great but appearing physically OK. It is not unusual for someone slightly unwell to deteriorate during the day after being awake for a couple of hours. Having unwell students at school creates issues not just for your child, but also for their classmates and teachers who are at risk of becoming sick as well.

Mercy Bears

St Joseph’s School is joining Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) to bring comfort and joy to those in need. How wonderful does that sound!
We’re hoping that 200 Mercy Bears will be made so we can hand them out to children in Cancer and Hospital Wards, to Centacare, the Queensland Police, the
Firies and even Aged Care facilities. To participate, students are invited to purchase one or more $15 Mercy Bear kits as ‘An Act of Kindness’ to others. Mercy Bears will be made in Terms 3 and 4, then gifted at our Christmas Concert.
If you are interested in purchasing a kit:
Fill in either the Trybooking request (please note that this charges a fee), or come into the office and pay by EFTPOS or by Cash
Orders close Friday, August 9
The Mercy Bears will be made at school or OSHC during lunchtimes in Terms 3 and 4. When finished, they will be named by the maker, given hugs and lots of
love, and packed away safely to go to their new home at our end-of-year Christmas Concert.
